Professional Dental Cleanings and Exams in Warrenton ,VA

General dentistry is an integral part of maintaining good oral health. This type of dentistry involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating any dental issues that can diminish a person's health. This includes routine cleanings and x-rays, filling in cavities, sealants, and more.

Types of General Dentistry

There are a variety of services that constitute as general dentistry. At Warrenton Dental Center, we offer a number of services for clients of all ages to help ensure our patients stay happy and healthy. The general dentistry services we provide include:

Preventative Care for Adults – We believe prevention is the most important key to overall oral health. Part of prevention is having a check-up every six months. This enables us to catch any problems such as cavities, cracks in an existing filling (which can lead to secondary cavities), gum disease, or any unusual growths in the soft tissue of the mouth that must be attended to. At these check-ups the hygienist will clean your teeth and the dentist will check your teeth and gums.

Preventative Care for Children – Adults are not the only ones who need to see a professional dentist every six months! Children are also at risk for cavities, and should be seen twice a year to assess their dental progress, check for any decay/damage, and more.

Sealants may be recommended as part of your child’s preventative care routine. Sealants are a clear plastic resin coating, like nail polish, that forms a physical barrier to oxygen. Sealants “starve” the bacteria that cause tooth decay. We apply sealants on the back teeth where pits and grooves typically form and are impossible to keep free from plaque and food particles.

Restorations (composite fillings) – Teeth that are suffering from decay and need filling can now be treated with metal-free composite fillings. In the past, teeth were usually filled with silver amalgam or other metals. Composite fillings eliminate the risks that may be associated with older mercury-containing amalgam fillings while offering a cosmetic benefit as well. Because they can be matched to your natural tooth color, composite fillings offer renewed health and strength without telltale signs of treatment.

Crowns – When teeth are damaged or decayed, they can cause pain and negatively affect appearance. Using all porcelain crowns, the evidence of having your teeth restored is virtually undetectable. Your smile will be stronger and healthier while still looking natural and beautiful. Porcelain crowns fit over your natural teeth like jackets. They can make teeth stronger and less susceptible to damage. At the same time, porcelain crowns can be used to improve the appearance of the teeth by reshaping them, changing their alignment, and making them whiter.

The Benefits of General Dentistry Services

There is no singular reason a person should practice good oral hygiene in order to uphold oral health. General dentistry practices help a patient in a number of ways, including:

They minimize the chances of disease, or catch disease early on enough that there is little to no long-term, serious damage.

They catch cavities and fill them, to prevent further tooth decay.

They screen for problems that you may not have noticed on your own, using scans, x-rays, and other advanced technology.

They help to clean off plaque that a normal toothbrush and toothpaste may not be able to remove.
